Norton Internet Security is by far the most annoying, bothersome software I have ever used! Of ANY kind! Popups, popups, and more popups! It’s actually almost as distracting as one of those weight-loss ads that shoves the image of 400 pounds of ass-blubber in your face. The interruptions are CONSTANT with default settings, and when you finally get annoyed enough to go check out customizing the settings, you’ll find you CAN NOT shut it up, not even for a day! Only for 6 hours. Sorry, but for me, having to schedule my focused work around Norton is Simply Not Acceptable.
If you care at all about focus and concentration, (and therefore, the quality of your work), STAY AWAY FROM SYMANTEC and NORTON! (And, I guess about a hundred other software companies, for that matter)!
After finding some other Anti-Virus software, do yourself a favor and go track down the last great free firewall, Sygate Personal Firewall 5.6, before Symantec bought them out years ago and turned it into this garbage!
Say it with me, people… “No to Nor-ton! No to Nor-ton!”

I spent $60 on this product to remove some spyware that got onto a friend’s system. During the scan it kept displaying an error telling me to uninstall using a special uninstall tool. The downloader provided to get the tool did not work. I could not properly uninstall the product to address the issue.
When scanning the system Norton 2010 did not remove a series of viruses. An example is Backdoor.TidServ.
The package states that it includes technical support. So I called them and found the support is paid technical support. They wanted to charge me $99, or more, to correct the issues.
Norton 2009 was very good. I strongly suggest passing by the 2010 version.

Last year I used Karsparsky Internet Suite, did a great job! I always check out the latest reviews from PC Magazine before I either renew a security product so I can try to stay with the top rated product. The review for the Norton Internet Security 2010 suite, Beta version was excellent! Well I made a mistake and purchased it, and have had problems ever since, slow computer startup and crashes!! Never had this problem before with Kasparsky! I plan to garbage can Norton and go back to Karsparsky!!
BEWARE OF THE NORTON 2010!!!

Product would not install. Symantec tech support remotely connected and their work in the registry rendered my system completely inoperable and unusable. Syamntec consumer services would not provide solution or other compensation for damages incurred. The worst consumer support I have ever encountered; over 7 hours on the phone with no solution and a computer that no does not work.
I would caution anyone purchasing this product that there are potential issues, especially if you have other Symantec products loaded on your system. Do some independent research online prior purchasing this product and you’ll most likely explore alternatives.

I spent many years using Norton, and used many versions of it through the years. I also had “experiences” with it on friends’ computers. The only reason I ever used to use it was because it came pre-installed on my computer/laptop’s systems, and back then I was not as “tech-savvy” as I am now. From experience, Norton has a long history of “questionable” ethics, such as unclean uninstalls; Norton was known to in fact leave files in your system to hinder the performance of any new antivirus you install in your system! Horrible, and I do not deal with such companies or programs anymore.
Needless to say, I decided to remove Norton when I got sick (but ofcourse wasn’t able to remove it without a third party “Norton Remover” due to the problems mentioned above), and I decided to try a number of antiviruses. AVG, Kaspersky Nod32 and the new Vipre antivirus to name a few, and my honest recommendation is that Vipre is the best antivirus I have ever used. Not only is it literally the lightest and fastest antivirus out there (CNET [...] and many other websites share this same conclusion after thorough testing), but also, it’s one of the safest, being able to delete a certain virus I had that Nod32 couldn’t. Kaspersky also offered solid protection, but it had many compatibility issues with other programs, and is much heavier on the system. AVG is the best free antivirus out there, but if you are looking for the absolute best antivirus out there and do not mind paying, then Vipre is my honest recommendation.
