I’ve never used a CAD type program before so I was pleasantly surprised at how easy this was to use. I had no trouble installing it (miracle) and I was able to build a blueprint in a matter of minutes. One caveat – I’m not doing anything very advanced; just moving walls and windows around and adding a little furniture. But I found it fairly intuitive and I was able to design a bunch of different layouts really quickly. They don’t have tons of detail yet, but it’s still better than waiting for my contractor to draw them for me.

I purchased the software yesterday and still don’t have it working due to the registration hoops that the software requires. The register button is supposed to open a browser so that you can enter your information and get receive an activation code in return. The register button does not open the browser. They don’t provide a URL either through the software or through there website that would allow me to access the registration screen directly. Their support is only open during business hours M-F so I can’t get help until Monday.
If you need to be up and running quickly then this is not the product for you.

I bought this to design a very simple deck. I’ve used a similar program in the past (Sierra Home Design) which I really liked, but needed something for my new Vista machine (64-bit) (which I love). I neglected to read the reviews on Punch! before buying it. Big mistake.
I started this process at about 9:30PM. After all, it was just a deck! Install the software, draw the deck, hit the sack! Wrong!!
The first time I tried wo install it, the machine seemed to lock up even before it got to the install screen. I tried to task manager, but it was locked up too! So I did a forced shut down and restarted. Looked on the Punch website – no mention of 64–bit but it was “100% Vista compatable.” Oh, wait, here’s a little something….Punch says “It may take up to 15 minutes for the installation to start in Vista – be patient.” That made me real happy – since it was now 10PM. Well, that was over an hour a ago.
Well, now it’s coming up on 10:45PM, and it is still installing. I know I’m not supposed to run another program during an install, but come on – for a friggin’ HOUR??? I would have given up sooner, but I was just so curious how long it would actually take. It did indeed take about 15 minutes for it to start (What WAS it doing???), but I was ready for that. What I wasn’t expecting was that during the install, it would stop repeatedly for 5 minutes or so, so it’s been installing for almost and hour!!! This is quite impressive! It was stuck at “1 minute 30 seconds remaining” for about 15 minutes.
AFTER all this, I read the reviews – what was I thinking? Most people say that even if the thing ever DOES get installed – and doesn’t screw up my computer – it doesn’t work very well anyways.
So the bottom line is, ummm, let’s see how to say this nicely…… I don’t recommend this product.
—–
Let’s see – now it’s 11PM, and it DID put an icon on my desktop (woo-hoo!), but has a box stating “Please Wait! Preparing to Install Punch! Content” which has been there for about 5 minutes…..
Oy Vey (as they say). I’m going to shut down the install and hope it hasn’t messed up my system.
——
No, wait, it won’t let me access Task Manager.
I’m going to force a shut down and try to unistall this lovely thing in the AM. Deck will have to wait.
Goodnight.
I did give it another 15 minutes – it’s now 11:15PM and I’m going to be grumpy in the moringing — install disc is still spinning, nothing happening. Please send help if you are reading this…… ugh…… ooof….. losing oxygen……

They tried to simplify the program to the point of being confusing and stubborn! Viewing and moving around the page is not obvious, jumping from one part of your plan to another without a reason is irritating and trying to figure out how to change a wall or adjust something is time consuming and frustrating. I had their punch program back in 99 or so and it was a great product, too bad for me it doesn’t work on the newer computer. This new product has left me feeling burned and frustrated.

Just got this product. It sucks. PERIOD. Definitely written by a programmer who doesn’t understand the user community. That YAGER review. DEFINITELY written by someone who works at PUNCH because no one in their right mind would like this product out of the box. I tried to do a simple import picture and add plants and furniture and after a day of trying, couldn’t get it to work properly. I suppose if you do CAD for a living, you might benefit from this product, otherwise… for the lay user trying to do some basic Home and Landscape design… go elsewhere.
